Is Sydney Coming of Age?

To say there’s a push from Sydney’s creative world right now is an understatement. It seems that every week we hear about a new festival/market/city-wide exhibition that includes everything from art and design, to music and interactivity to performance and theatre.

I’ve lived in Sydney for 8 years now, and for that time at least, it’s been Melbourne which is considered the artistic hub of Australia. You can feel a distinct change in the consciousness of the city though. Is Sydney ready to outgrow it’s brash, party city title and grow up? Maybe not quite, but I think we’re on the way.

Here are just a few things to look out for this year (some old, some new)…

> Regularly

> May

> June

> October

> January

…I know there’s a bunch more out there, so I’ll update this as I remember them. In the meantime, feel free to let me know if I’ve missed something great.
